Principal Accountability
The Head of Supply Chain provides strategic leadership and oversight of the organization’s end-to-end supply chain across six African countries, managing approximately USD 80M in annual procurement spend. The role ensures that procurement and logistics operations are efficient, compliant, transparent, and risk-aware, while actively advancing the organization’s commitment to the girls and women it serves, local communities, and our supporters.
This position balances strong internal controls with enabling country teams to procure responsibly.
Supply Chain Leadership
Develop and implement a regional supply chain strategy aligned with organizational mission and grassroots principles.
Embed a “local-as-possible, global where necessary” procurement approach, prioritizing local suppliers, women-led businesses, and community-based enterprises where quality and cost allow.
Provide strategic advice to senior leadership on supply chain risk and mitigation, localization trade-offs and opportunities, and cost optimization.
Procurement, Supplier and Logistics Management
Work with national teams to develop and maintain supplier databases, including due diligence, vetting, and performance reviews.
Work with national teams to review, advise and support annual procurement plans aligned with program work plans.
For large and significant procurement, provide leadership, negotiate contracts and framework agreements to achieve operational resilience, cost savings and quality assurance.
Support national teams with warehousing, distribution planning, and last-mile delivery solutions.
Systems, Data & Digital Transformation
Lead implementation and continuous improvement of procurement automation project considering evolving needs and priorities.
Develop dashboards for executive oversight of spend, compliance, and timeliness. This includes ensuring visibility of procurement pipeline, contract status, and inventory levels.
Design, implement and automate procurement systems with the use of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies to enhance, and optimize various tasks within procurement processes.
Capacity-building and Supplier & Market Development
Develop strategies to encourage supplier diversity and inclusive procurement practices including promotion of long-term partnerships with local and regional vendors.
Provide technical guidance and mentoring to country-level procurement committees, program managers, and other relevant staff. This may include training on procurement planning, supplier management, and compliance.
Continuous improvement and risk management
Lead and work cross-functionally to continuously improve CAMFED procurement processes in line with organisational priorities and donor policies.
Monitor and regularly report supply chain performance using KPIs (lead times, cost efficiency, compliance).
Maintain a departmental risk register to track and mitigate supply chain risks, including fraud, delays, market volatility, and security issues.
Collaborate with other functions including Finance and Risk & Assurance to strengthen segregation of duties and internal controls within supply chain processes.
Support internal and external audits related to procurement, logistics, and assets.
Essential
Qualification in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Procurement, Business Administration, or related field.
Minimum 10 years’ experience in supply chain, procurement, or logistics roles within NGOs, charities, or international organisations.
Strong knowledge of donor compliance and procurement regulations.
Proven experience managing suppliers, contracts, and logistics across multiple countries.
Knowledge and experience of procurement automation and use of (AI) technologies.
Strong analytical, negotiation, and organisational skills.
Ability to work effectively across cultures and time zones.
