Who we are
CAMFED (Campaign for Female Education) is recognized internationally as a leader in girls’ education, for its child protection policy and practice, as a voice for girls’ education and women’s livelihoods and leadership at the highest levels. Founded in 1993, CAMFED is internationally recognized for its impact in girls’ education, women’s livelihoods and leadership child protection, and community-led development.
Through education, mentorship, enterprise, and leadership opportunities, CAMFED supports girls and young women to transition into influential leaders, activists, entrepreneurs, and philanthropists who are transforming their communities across Africa.
At the heart of this work is the CAMFED Association (CAMA), a powerful network of young women leaders who are creating opportunities for girls and vulnerable children through mentorship, advocacy, enterprise, and community action.
Principle Accountability
The CAMA Development and Enterprise Officer role will be based in Kenya- Kajiado County and will report to the Head of Programme. This role will contribute to development of the CAMA network as an Africa-led movement for young women’s empowerment by multiplying educational opportunities for girls and other vulnerable children and leading the implementation of the CAMFED Investment Plan to 2030 in Kenya. It will also support the roll out and delivery of CAMFED’s transitions and enterprise programs for young women.
Specific Accountabilities:
Program Leadership, Implementation, Monitoring and Reporting
•Promote CAMA network growth, governance, leadership, advocacy, agency, and institutional development.
•Strengthen CAMA governance structures and ensure alignment with the CAMA Constitution and CAMFED policies and standards.
•Collaborate with CAMA leaders, officers, and coordinators to effectively implement programmes and activities.
•Lead the recruitment, training, and coordination of Guides to deliver school- and community-based sessions; while ensuring they are supported by available structures.
•Ensure Guides are effectively supported through existing programme and community structures to enhance programme quality, motivation, and retention.
•Support the development, contextualisation, adaptation, and continuous improvement of Guide manuals, training materials, and programme delivery tools.
•Ensure standardization and quality implementation of the Guide Programmes (Learner guides, Transition and Enterprise guides) across counties, sub-counties, and schools in collaboration with government and community stakeholders.
•Monitor and evaluate programme performance to track progress of the various Guide programmes and promote motivation and retention of trained guides.
•Lead preparation and submission of high-quality, timely programme and donor reports.
•Collaborate with various committees to strengthen understanding and delivery of CAMFED programmes in line with the 2024–2030 CAMFED Investment Plan.
•Build and maintain partnerships with public and private sector stakeholders to provide resources, expertise, and opportunities that enhance the growth and sustainability of young women’s enterprises.
•Conduct regular quality assurance checks on the CAMA database and projects, while documenting evidence of impact to support advocacy and knowledge sharing.
•Coordinate internal and external CAMA learning visits and exchange programmes.
Planning, Implementation, Management, Leadership & Support (Enterprise)
•Contribute to the design and roll-out of transition and enterprise programs for young women.
•Lead the implementation of CAMFED’s Investment Plan’s young women’s enterprise programmes, ensuring effective and high-quality delivery of programme activities.
•Build and maintain partnerships with public and private sector stakeholders to provide resources, expertise, and opportunities that enhance the growth and sustainability of young women’s enterprises.
•Champion young women’s enterprises and support their business leadership.
•Ensure clear documentation and effective information sharing on enterprise development activities through meetings, stakeholder updates, reports, case studies, and stories.
•Represent CAMFED Kenya in Consortium-wide Enterprise team meetings to share insights, learning and best practice
•Contribute to fundraising proposals and reports in support of young women’s enterprise
•Design and support monitoring and exchange visits across counties and sub-counties where appropriate.
Stakeholder Engagement
•Communicate, network, and build effective working relationships with relevant institutions, partners, team members, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and Government agencies to help create opportunities and advancement of CAMA.
Capacity Building and Learning
•Coordinate training and capacity building of CAMA Leaders, Guides and CAMFED stakeholders to ensure urgency and coordinated support to vulnerable children and young women.
•Coordinate lesson learning, sharing of best practices, and skills sharing amongst CAMA members.
Safeguarding
•Familiarize yourself with CAMFED’s Child Protection (CP) and Safeguarding policies and procedures, ensuring compliance during program delivery.
•Engage in regular CP safeguarding training and development sessions to stay informed about best practices and updates in CP and safeguarding protocols.
•Report any Child Protection and Safeguarding concerns or incidents promptly to the designated safeguarding focal person
•Be vigilant and recognize signs of abuse or neglect and understand the appropriate steps to take when concerns arise. Report any Child Protection and Safeguarding concerns or incidents promptly to the designated officers and authorities.
•Handle all safeguarding information with confidentiality, sharing details only with those who need to know, in accordance with legal and organizational guidelines.
Any other duties as assigned by the Head of Programmes.

Person specification:
Skills & Competencies
•Strong ability to implement and manage programs effectively, ensuring alignment with strategic plans and annual work schedules.
•Excellent interpersonal skills for building relationships with local partners, NGOs, government agencies, and funding organizations.
•Demonstrated leadership skills with ability to lead and motivate teams with ability to adapt to changing priorities and work under pressure
•Strategic thinking: Strategic mindset with the ability to develop and implement innovative solutions, proven track record of identifying and resolving complex issues
•Cultural awareness and sensitivity when working with diverse communities.
•Experience in providing effective support for women entrepreneurs in Kenya, including knowledge of business/ entrepreneurship interventions.
•Experience in preparing reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
•Familiarity with monitoring and evaluation processes to assess program effectiveness.
•A demonstrated commitment to CAMFED’s values, including safeguarding and equity and to achieving CAMFED’s mission
•Ability to work effectively with colleagues from a range of functions and countries
•Proactivity, efficiency and attention to detail
•Experience working with CAMFED as a CAMA member or partner will be an added advantage.
Essential:
•Bachelor’s degree in any social science or relevant field. A master’s degree will be an added advantage.
•Minimum of 3 years’ experience in program management and/or related field.
