Reporting to: Senior Finance Officer

CAMFED (Campaign for Female Education) is recognized internationally as a leader in girls’ education, for its child protection policy and practice, as a voice for girls’ education and women’s empowerment at the highest levels. Founded in 1993, CAMFED supports young women throughout their primary and secondary school years, into economic training and further education, and onto leadership, as role models, activists, and philanthropists.
Principle Accountability
The Finance Assistant role will support the day-to-day maintenance and smooth running of an accurate and up-to-date accounting system. In addition, this role will support travel requests, reconciliation of staff accounts, retirement as well as managing payments to stakeholders while ensuring liaison with our partner schools is above board in terms of documentation and records for the supported clients. Further, this role will support reporting, budgeting and compliance.
Specific Accountabilities
1. Accounts Payable & Disbursements
•Support the activities registration and payment forms checks for accuracy and completeness before preparing payment forms.
•Perform validation and initiation of payments on M-Pesa bulk ensuring timeliness and correct recipients.
•Support with uploading of payment requisitions in Salesforce ensuring completeness and accuracy of supporting documents.
•Assist the disbursement process of bursary and entitlements ensuring compliance and accuracy.
•In liaison with procurement, ensure all invoices and delivery notes are provided and filed
•Ensure all supplier invoices are eTIMS compliant
2. Cash Management & Treasury
•Manage office petty cash ensuring all transactions are supported and reported weekly
•Receive, check, and process travel advance requests (meals, transport, incidental)
•Assist in reconciliation of staff travel advances on a weekly basis
•Assist and where possibly train the staff in preparing
3. Financial Reporting & Reconciliation
•Assist with daily bank reconciliation and flag unfamiliar transactions
•Assist in preparation of journals
•Timely posting of financial transactions into the financial system
•Follow up on retirements for activities to support weekly and month-end reporting
4. Budgeting & Financial Planning Support
•Assist the team with budget preparations and clarifications
•Flag any spending outside the approved budget
5. Accounts Receivable / Stakeholder Coordination
•Send remittance advices to schools showing beneficiaries whose fees have been paid
•Follow up with schools for acknowledgment of fees paid and maintain proper records
•Provide real-time feedback and clarifications to schools as needed
6. Compliance, Documentation & Record Keeping
•Maintain up-to-date filing of financial records
•Ensure all supporting documentation is complete, accurate, and well filed

Person specification:
Skills & Competencies
•Proficient in basic accounting principles including accounts payable/receivable, cashbook management, and bank reconciliations
•Ability to accurately process financial transactions and maintaining up-to-date financial records.
•Ability to understand donor funding requirements (e.g., NGOs, international development partners.
•Competent in accounting software and ERP systems (e.g. Salesforce)
•Proficiency in use of Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, data analysis etc.)
•Experience maintaining digital and manual filing systems for financial records
•Experience managing petty cash, processing payments, and handling procurement documentation
•Cultural awareness and sensitivity when working with diverse communities.
•Strong interpersonal skills for working with program staff, field officers, and external stakeholders
•A demonstrated commitment to CAMFED’s values including safeguarding and equity and to achieving CAMFED’s mission
•Ability to work effectively with colleagues from a range of functions and countries
•Proactivity, efficiency and attention to detail
Essential:
•Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field
•CPA Part II qualification
•Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in finance, or compliance (INGO experience is highly desirable)
